2. American Van Lines: Best Moving Add-Ons

American Van Lines has been in continuous operation since the mid-1990s. In addition to this, they advertise that each of their workers brings an average of ten years of experience to each move. 4. JK Moving Services: Best for Protection Insurance

JK Moving Services has been in business for four decades. In that span, they have carried out more than a million relocations of varying sizes and service requirements. Cost

We were able to get a sample price for a two-bedroom move from U-Pack. The move in question would be 400 miles. If you opted for two ReloCubes, the cost would be $2,056. Going with comparable space in a trailer (10 feet) would cost $1,851. Larger relocations with this provider can meet or surpass $3,000, however.

Final Thoughts

All of our top-five long-distance movers come highly recommended. Selecting the best movers  for your relocation will be a matter of establishing exactly what your own particular moving needs are. The best way to do this is by being proactive. Waiting until the last minute will just lead to more stress, and will likely force you to book with a provider for a less than ideal or affordable price than you’d like. Fielding free quotes from multiple interstate moving companies is the best way to find a provider whose service offerings and price points best fit your needs and budget.

What to Look for in a Washington Long-Distance Moving Company

All movers, regardless of their home state, have to carry multiple forms of insurance. This is required by law. The first of these, workers’ compensation, protects you in the event of a work-related injury during your move. Next, basic liability insurance protects your household goods in the event of loss or damage. This baseline coverage is standard across the moving industry, and only covers you at a rate of $0.60 per pound, per item. Moving companies have to offer full valuation coverage options as well, but these will come at an extra cost. The aforementioned basic coverage is included in the base cost of your move.

All intrastate and local movers are regulated by the Washington Utilities and Transport Commission. Moving companies in the state have to display an HG number on all vehicles and written estimates. Under this body’s regulations, moves under 55 miles are considered local, and are billed by the hour. Moves of 56 miles or more are considered long-distance, and have to be billed by weight and distance.

All companies completing interstate moves are regulated by the FMCSA. All movers under this banner have to maintain an up-to-date USDOT number, which can be used to research a given provider through this link. By going here, prospective clients can view a mover’s complaint history, and verify that all of their licenses are up-to-date.

When considering booking with any mover, you should ask for proof of all of the above licenses and insurance policies. Any reputable and above-board company will happily provide you with proof. If a company representative hedges when being asked for this, it could be a sign that you should take your business elsewhere.

Benefits of Using a Long-Distance Mover

When planning a move to a new home, you already have enough on your mind. Whether you’re closing on a new house, focusing on recouping a security deposit on a previous rental, or thinking of any of the other sources of worry you could encounter, moving logistics can’t help when piled onto that. Hiring professionals will definitely cost more, but the benefit of some added peace of mind during the moving process cannot be overstated. No matter what specialty services you may need out of your move, it will be their job to handle them.

Of course, one can’t consider moving without imagining the physical strain of all the heavy lifting it entails. Hiring pros for your interstate or cross-country move will save you a lot of wear and tear on your body, which will allow you to enjoy your life in your new home far more.

FAQs for Moving Companies in Washington

What are the best places to move to in Washington state?

The cost of living in Washington is fairly high – about 18% above the national average – but this is mainly a function of a thriving economy and the state’s natural beauty. Aside from Seattle, which holds around 60% of the state’s population, Bellingham, Olympia, Bellevue, and Tacoma are some of the most popular destinations for new residents.

How much do long-distance moving services typically cost?

Long-distance moves typically cost between $2,000 and $5,000. People who opt for a DIY moving experience, and opt to rent their own moving truck can sometimes pay less than $2,000. Similarly, those who require cross-country moving for large homes can sometimes pay in excess of $10,000. Shipment weight and move distance, as well as add-on services are the key determining factors in move cost.

What are the most expensive add-on services?

The two most expensive single services are packing and auto shipping. Hourly rates for packing services, as well as the markups charged by movers for packing supplies, add up quickly. Doing your own packing, and buying your own packing materials can save you a lot of money. Similarly, shipping a car a long distance can cost between $1,000 and $2,000, depending on the shipping method type of vehicle.
